Marwin Angeles goal gave Kaya Makati FC a 1:0 win against Stallion Laguna FC at Umak Stadium

Before the kickoff, both sides lined up in a fairly conventional shape and the first thing you noticed was the miss match of height. The Stallion boys were clearly not as tall and gifted as their Kaya counterparts but they worked hard for each other in and out of possession especially as Kaya came flying at the first whistle putting severe pressure on them.

The first chance in the game landed on the Kaya striker Mendy but his shot went wide to the relive of the Laguna side.

With Kaya pressing for a lead, Mendy had two glorious chances to put the contest to rest early in the game but he missed the opportunities much to his surprise.

The first chance came when he made a wonderful run from the central area of the goal to the left side but his side-footed effort beats the goalkeeper and the goalpost from a close range.

Another came when he was left facing the goalkeeper one on one but the Senegalese failed to produce his trademark.

With Mendy passing through the Stallion central defenders at will, the coach was forced to bring Nana Christian another Senegalese from the right back to the central area to match up to his power. However, Nana was later substituted with an injury.

As Stallion struggled to find a rhythm in the half, their striker had a chance to surprise Kaya when a long ball beats Alfred Osei who was dominant in Kaya’s defense throughout the game but his shot was too weak to cause the damage.

Another chance got to Stallion striker when a long ball over the top landed on his foot but the quality of his first touch was not good enough as Kaya defenders recovered and cleared the ball for a throw.

The man of the match Marwin Angeles found the breakthrough for Kaya in the 40 minutes from close range as the first half ended 1:0 in Kaya's favor.

The second half started and Stallion settled better after the scream of disappointment from coach Ernest Nierras to his players during the break.

They controlled the ball better in the second half as Kaya fans called on the team to wake up and secure the 3 points.

Stallion saw their long-range shot bounced off the bar as they kept pressing for an equalizer until the end of the game.

Kaya though was able to absorb the pressure from Stallion in the second half, midfielders dropped the level of their game and concentration and gave the ball away cheaply on more than 3 occasions that almost resulted in goals.

Miguel Tanton saw his second yellow card and got sent off in the added time by interfering with the restart of play after a foul and Kaya was reduced to 10 Men in the remaining minutes.

Stallion produced a great performance in the second half but the lack of height and firing power in the final third was their biggest problems. They were not dangerous in set pieces and were vulnerable in set pieces.

The 1:0 defeat by Kaya means Stallion suffered a defeat in their first away game and will remain at the bottom of the PFL table while Kaya will occupy the second position.
