Kaya FC B succumbed to Manila Tala FC in the WFL Cup 2016/2017 final penalty shootout.
Manila Tala's Goalkeeper gave his club their first WFL Cup crown with two wonderful saves as they defeated Kaya FC B 5:4 in the final by a penalty shootout after a goalless draw in the regulation time at McKinley Hills Stadium.
Kaya FC started the game on the front foot with a long range shot that went over the bar and another chance when a long ball beats Tala's defenders but the Kaya attacker who was left facing the goalkeeper could not make the opportunity to count early in the game.
Tala responded as Kaya goalkeeper was forced to make a save. They came close to having the opener but the striker headed the ball wide from close range.
Tala settled into the game quickly as Kaya were looking for an early lead. The physicality and aggressiveness of Tala's midfielders and the versatility of their defenders kept Kaya at the bay as both teams missed other precious chances.
Kaya was exceptional from the back with Junior controlling the game but the midfielders lacked the cutting edge to deliver the final pass as the attackers were forced to play with their back facing the goal.
Tala’s midfield and defense were solid in the game but their attacking line was the weakest at some point.
Kaya already the champion in the WFL Champions Division was the favorite to win the cup final but Tala showed the reason they won the league in the WFL Challengers Division and why they would be able to compete at the WFL top level in the 2017/2018 season.
