Felda United met Roland Muller in unbeatable form as he rescued Ceres a point to stay top of group G
Man of the match Roland Muller rescued a point for Ceres as the Bacolod team struggled to put up their best performance in front of the 8,965 home fans and supporters at Pana-ad Stadium.
Zelda came into the game as underdogs sitting at the bottom of group G table with 1 point from 2 matches to take on Ceres at the summit of the group with 4 points from two matches.
Though disappointed on the missed chances to scoop the 3 points against Ceres, the Fighters went home with a point much to the delight of coach Sathianathan who needed just that against the Busmen as quoted from the pre-match briefing on The Star Online by K. Rajan.
“I think it will be a bonus for us if we can get a point from this match,” “We need to respect them, but not fear them. If my players can execute our game plan accordingly, I’m sure we can get something from this match,” he said.
Felda United performance showed that they needed it more than Ceres and Muller had to be in his best form to keep a clean sheet as the Bacolod team failed to produce their cutting edge display.
There were many attempts from both Ceres Negros FC and Felda United, however, the Malaysian side had the best chance to kill the game in the 61 minutes when Norsharul Talaha danced through two Ceres defenders on his way to the goal only to be foul by OJ Porteria in the box for a penalty. The Argentina striker Cano stepped up to convert the spot-kick for the fighters only to find his sluggish effort to the bottom right of the goal save by brilliant Ceres goalkeeper Roland Muller for a corner.
After the penalty Ceres pushed on to attack but was caught on a counter when Zah Krangar took on the Ceres defender and layoff the pass for unmarked Cano in the box to make amend of the missed penalty but the striker struck it wide to his disbelieve.
Ceres best chance came in the 74 minutes when Iain Ramsay struck the ball wide from close range when Fernando Rodriguez’s delivered a delicious low cross from the right wing to the box.
The 0:0 final score means Ceres now is now level in point with Hanoi FC but will remain the leader of the group in goal difference while Felda maintains its position at the bottom.
