Philippine Global Cebu FC dropped to second on the AFC Cup 2017 group F table with a 4:0 defeat to J
Having won two of the two previous matches and taking all the available 6 points, Global went to this game full of confidence but the sloppy defending made them to suffer their first defeat of the campaign in the hand of the former AFC Cup winners Johor Darul Ta’zim as the win took the Malaysians side to the top of the group.
The first goal came in the 30 minutes when Mahalli Jasuli right-footed shot from the edge of the box found the right bottom of the net as the rushing Global FC players failed to clear their line.
Safiq Rahim slotted home the second goal 4 minutes later from the spot when the Southern Tigers attacker was awarded a penalty on what appeared to be a dive in the box. In this way, Johor Darul Ta'zim settled as half time ended 2:0 in their favor.
Coming into the second half, Global looked to take the game to their opponet but the Tigers had to wait until the 87 minutes before causing the damage on the Philippine UFL and UFL Cup 2016 champions with a quick counter attack when Brian Ferreira was found with a long ball and the striker made no mistake with his chest control and his first and second touch took him passed the lonely defender into the box before beating helpless goalkeeper Deyto with a nutmeg into the bottom of the net to make it 3:0.
The last goal came in the stoppage time with Johor Darul Ta'zim captain Marcos Antonio heading home from close range following a free kick as Global defenders struggled throughout the game.
Johor Darul Ta'zim win may look like a harsh result but the winning side used their resources far better.
Global must adjust their team defending and how they respond after conceding a goal as they return to training should their hope of getting back into the winning ways continue on April 5.
