Bahadoran and Azzawi scored to send Global FC of Philippines to round 2 of the AFC Champions League


Global FC of Philippines progress to round 2 of the AFC Champions League Preliminary stage after beating Tampines Rovers of Singapore 2:0 in the Rizal stadium.

The game started brightly with both teams having a fair share of possession but it was Global FC that threatened first as Bahadoran 3 minutes shot to the center of the goal was well received by Tampines Rovers goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud.

In the 18 minutes, Global had another chance to take the lead but the goalkeeper was quick to move out of his line to stop the early damage.

Tampines rovers also had a chance in the 23 minutes but their header went wide from a close range.

There was a feeling that Tampines Rovers could register a goal when they were pressing high towards the end of the half but their 38 minutes free kick at the edge of the box went wide following by another chance in the 40 minutes when the attacker was played through to face the Global goalkeeper but he failed to make the chance count as the first half ended 0:0.

The second half started and this time it was Tampines Rovers attacker that was set free on the left wing to face the Global goal but Kaole who was solid in the right back position was able to recover and clear the ball out for a corner.

Bahadoran came closer to breaking the deadlock for Global in the 50 minutes but he saw his effort after beating goalkeeper cleared off the goal following by a corner.

Another goalscoring chance came to Global in the 55 minutes but the attacker played the ball wide from a close range.

Global FC made history of being the first Philippine club to score in the AFC Champions League Preliminary stage in the 61 minutes when Azzawi shot from a close range found the top middle of the net assisted by Bahadoran.

Anther history was created in the 73 minutes when Bahadoran that was of a constant threat to the Tampines Rovers backline deflected shot found the bottom of the net in a quick break assisted by Azzawi as Global registered first victory in the AFC Champions League and progress to the second round of the preliminary stage.

Tampines Rovers had a chance to score a consolation goal in the 87 minutes when their player was brought down in the box and penalty was awarded. Deyto however, made sure Global went home with 2 goals win and a clean sheet with a decisive safe when the ball was sent from the spot to the top middle of the goal.

The result means Global FC will be facing Brisbane Roar of Australia in Australia on January 31, 2017
